What Is NADCA?
The National Air Duct Cleaners Association is the trade body that writes the cleaning standard your HVAC system should be cleaned to: ACR, The NADCA Standard for Assessment, Cleaning & Restoration of HVAC Systems. NADCA-certified technicians (called ASCS, Air Systems Cleaning Specialists) pass a written exam and are required to follow that standard on every job.
What the ACR Standard Actually Requires
- Source removal, not just blow-and-go. Every internal surface of the supply, return, and air handler has to be physically cleaned, not masked with sealants or fragrances.
- Negative pressure containment. A truck-mounted or large portable HEPA-filtered vacuum places the entire system under negative pressure so dislodged debris flows out, not into your home.
- Mechanical agitation with rotating brushes, air whips, or compressed-air tools, every linear foot of duct, not just the section visible from the register.
- Cleaning of all components: blower, evaporator coil, drain pan, plenums, registers, and grilles.
- Visual verification with before/after photos at multiple access points.
